I am currently working as per diem dentist. I also provide institutional memory, 28 years’ worth, which I share with staff. I’ve been a teacher, administrator, and practitioner of dentistry for several decades. Prior to coming to Charles River, I was Dental Director at East Boston Community Health Center. Also, I continue to be the Dental Consultant at the Hillsborough County Nursing Home which is large facility of approximately 350 residents. At Hillsborough, I provide care for a large group of medically compromised and disabled residents.
When I first came Charles River, then known as the Joseph M. Smith Community Health Center, we had fewer than 50 employees. During my first 6 months, the health center nearly closed due to financial mismanagement. Since then, there have been many ups and downs but the health center has not only survived but has managed to grow. We provided more than 15,000 dental visits to our community in 2025.
It can sometimes be frustrating to deal with the constant changes to MassHealth and other insurance programs, but I am so proud of the work we do to provide care for our migrant communities regardless of their ability. I also feel very fortunate to work with an amazing group of caring and committed professionals that make up the dental team at Charles River.
