I am a diabetes nurse educator and also work with our prenatal team and provide education to pregnant women, with existing diabetes or gestational diabetes. It is an honor and pleasure to provide education and support to our patients living with diabetes.
My mother and I left Peru for southern Connecticut when I was three months old, to reunite with my father. I am the oldest of four sisters. All of our names begin with letter “M”! My parents gave me the gift of a loan free ride to Boston College School of Nursing. After graduating from BC, I had the opportunity to volunteer in Tacna, Peru at the Cristo Rey Center for the Working Child (kids working in cemeteries, selling newspapers, shining shoes).
I’ve been working at Charles River Community Health for more than 20 years and one of the most rewarding parts of my job is the pride patients have when they’ve learned how to better self-manage their diabetes. I also appreciate all my colleagues at work because it takes a team effort to support and advocate for our patients. It can sometimes be frustrating to deal with the long gaps in some patient care and the negative health consequences of that gap. We try to offset this by directly reaching out to the patients, but that can only accomplish so much. We work hard to try to make sure that our patients have access to the care they both deserve and need.
Outside of work, I enjoy going to the gym, cycling, walking, yoga and volunteering in my community.
